Carolyn Adams
Carolyn Adams was a principal dancer with the Paul Taylor Dance Company from 1965 to
1982, distinguishing herself in Taylor masterpieces such as Esplanade, Aureole, Cloven
Kingdaom and Arden Court. Ms. Adams is founding artistic director of the New York State
Summer School of the Arts School of Dance and, with her sister, Julie Adams Strandberg,
is co-founder of the American Dance Legacy Institute and creator and curator for the
Repertory Etudes(tm) Collection. Faculty Emerita at The Juilliard School, she currently
serves on the faculty at the Alvin Ailey School. Winner of numerous awards and
citations, Ms. Adams has served on panels for NYSCA, the NEA and the National
Foundation for Advancement in the Arts and chaired Dance/USA's national task force on
dance education. She is married to former Paul Taylor dancer, Robert Kahn. Carolyn Adams
is the Co-Founder of American Dance Legacy Initiative and the Founding Director of the
New York State Summer School of the Arts School of Dance.
